Is Form 990-N the right filing?
Most small tax-exempt organizations with annual gross receipts normally $50,000 or less may use Form 990-N. Exceptions and special rules apply; being under that amount alone does not establish eligibility.
The annual deadline is the 15th day of the fifth month after the tax year ends—usually May 15 for a calendar-year organization, adjusted for weekends and legal holidays. Three consecutive missed required annual filings can result in automatic revocation.
Form 990-N is an annual notice, not an application for 501(c)(3) recognition. It also does not replace state reporting. If another return or reinstatement is needed, that work requires a separate review.

Support for organizations nationwide
Build your organization with guidance tailored to the state where you form and the communities you serve. Our intake identifies your state, planned activities, and current status so we can outline the appropriate formation and annual-filing steps.
State requirements vary. Incorporation, charitable registration, and ongoing state reporting are reviewed separately from federal tax-exempt status and IRS annual filings.
